By Joseph Welusz

The following will detail some additional discounts that may apply to your auto insurance already. Discover some additional options that may cause your premium to decrease even further. As with most auto insurance companies the more accidents you have been in or tickets you received the greater your insurance premium. If you have a good driving record then your premium will start out low. If you obtain multiple policies from one company such as auto and homeowner policies then you may automatically qualify for additional discounts.

Besides these general and well known discounts there are other discounts that may apply to you. It has been found that individuals with a college degree particularly in engineering of the sciences can receive lower auto insurance rates. Individuals with these types of degrees have less risk then other degrees. If you have a degree in biochemistry, engineering and other related fields then you can get an additional discount when purchasing a policy form the 21st Century Group. Generally about 10 to 30 percent can be saved as long as you have a good driving record.

Teachers are also considered to be a low risk group and many auto insurance companies including Ohio Casualty, 21st century Group, Horace Mann and Esurance offer additional discounts. An educator discount does have specific qualification, as you may need to be fully certified or teach in a specific state. Sometimes only full time college professors will receive this discount, but if you are a teacher then you should check with your insurance company. You may receive a substantial decrease to your insurance premium.

Geico offers a special military auto insurance discount for active and non-active members. A military member can save between 2 to 15 percents through Geico. Geico offers a special discount if you have a stored vehicle and are receiving hostile-fire pay. These courses can be taken online or you can order a complete course kit. If you have a lot of points due to accidents and tickets then taking a defensive driving course if a great way to lower your insurance payments.

It will take some additional research to determine if any of these additional discounts apply to you. You should have all of your questions if front of you and then speak with an insurance agent, as the online quotes will not include this additional information. By taking the extra time and thoroughly researching each company you may be able to lower your insurance premium quite significantly.
